| Michael Robear's style of painting has been described as somewhere between traditional realism and modern surrealism.
At first glance the viewer may wonder if what they see is real or have they slipped into a dream world, like the moment between feeling something emotionally and knowing it mentally.
Using a muted natural palette of watercolor and gouache, wash and dry brush, Robear creates art where all things are possible creating a world that incorporates magic and memory within an everyday
reality.
His framing is integral to the paintings, made with metal and woodworking techniques that Michael has mastered over his lifetime.
Each frame echoes some pattern or linear theme of the work, providing a unifying structure for the small universe it contains.
Michael lives and has his studio and blacksmith shop in Cecil County, Maryland, at the head of the Chesapeake Bay.
He earned his BFA from the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC and currently teaches at the Delaware College of Art and
Design.
